What's the best way to make synthetic dreads?

I'm going to be making dread falls for a tribal fusion bellydance halloween costume. I won't be wearing them everyday and they will probably see limited dance time (it's mainly for halloween).

On youtube I found some great tuts, but I wanted to ask or poll which method would be better for my purposes. So....

is it better to back comb like this (about 2:37 and on)

or can I get away with just twisting them like this (about 4:55 and on)

I've just bought 100% kanekalon hair, so I'm ready to go Pros and cons of each method and/or personal experiences would be much appreciated!
