Tribal Bellydancing

Does anyone on here do tribal bellydancing and know where to get the gear for it, cheaply?

I take tribal and egyptian classes, and neither have cheap costumes.

Although there are a few good sites.

The best way to save money is get together with some tribe or class members and learn how to make your own costumes. I am at a disadvantage because I can't sew to save my life, so like you I am always searching for a good deal!!

For class I buy yoga pants at any local department store and wear a hip scarf or the rosehip skirts over the pants. I have only a few performance worthy pants, cholis and skirts!

Bellydancing... cool or slutty?

What do you think of Middle Eastern dance and dancers? Tribal Style vs. Glittery Cabaret? Do you think it is an art form and has merit, or just all about eroticism? Or does it depend on the instance?

I love belly dance! Belly dance is not slutty when performed as it ought to be. Belly dancers don't use a pole, do lap dances, or strip. Those are different dance styles of their own. Belly dance is an art form and has merit. Belly dance is not about eroticism. Belly dance is more complex than what many seem to believe. It takes time to really get the technique perfected for more involved movements. I have yet to see a belly dance performance that is anywhere near as provocative as some dance performances in many music videos. There are some misconceptions about belly dance, but the general perception seems to be improving as people are becoming better informed about what belly dance is and is not.

Personally, I like the glittery Cabaret costumes. I enjoy watching both ATS and Cabaret performances. The movements are pretty much the same, but the costuming is distinctly different most of the time. I've seen some dancers blending and blurring those styles though too.
