True some belly dance accessories may be a little expensive if you are a professional dancer and require a number of different costumes to reflect the different styles of belly dance.  The more experienced a person is the more necessary it becomes to have comfortable professionally made garments

However newcomers to Belly Dancing can get away with converting some of there ordinary clothes and save costs by improvising through purchasing and adding some sequins or loose coins designed for sewing onto them; or by using the beads from cheap bracelets or necklaces

Tribal Belly Dance trouble with my hip slides?

I took a few Tribal Belly Dance classes a few years ago and recently started more wednesday. My hips swing a little when I hip snaps which are suppose to be straight up and down. Anyone have any suggestions

Experiment with tightening (locking) the glutes at different intensities while pulling the hip up the front of the body toward the ceiling as your doing the move. Weight on your heels. I have a feeling all your energy is being forced out to the walls instead of the ceiling/floor.
I'm not tribal, I'm cabaret. But isolating the hips is one of my specialties.
