How long does a baby box turtle stay small?

Im thinking about getting a box turtle, prefferably a baby. I was wondering how long they stay a baby, or how long they are small.

It depends on a lot of factors like food, temperature, whether you have it hibernate or keep it inside (where it will grow all winter) and how healthy it is.
Growth is slow and a turtle that grows too fast may have health problems like a deformed shell, so don't over feed. Not growing at all is a sign of bad health also.
My three year old red-slider is just over 4 inches now.
Do lots of research. Turtles are not the easiest pet to keep and are not for everyone.
