Making a coin necklace?

I just got back from vacation in Aruba and want to make my leftover currency (Florin coins) into necklaces for my pals. Is there any way to punch a hole in a coin safely at home? Or do I have to take the coins to some sort of metal worker?

I drill mine with my drill and a drill bit made for metal. If you don't have a drill, just go to the local hardware store and buy the bit... then ask someone who has a drill if you could borrow it or better yet have them do it for you. Leave the bit with them as the token of thank you for use of the drill.
