Should a scar from a hernia op still be painful ?

I had an abdominal hernia repaired last April. It was just above my belly button and was only a few millimeters wide. But there was some tissue which had got trapped. I had permenant stitches and no Mesh.
I am a Dance teacher and If I do a strenuos class It is really painful the following day and takes about a week to settle down. The scar is still quite tender to touch. Has anyone else experienced pain following surgery ?
