The Rodeo Comes to Town

In his smash 1991 smash hit "Rodeo" Garth Brooks embodied the spirit and intensity of the Wild West. His lyrics about dust, mud, bulls, blood, joy and pain sum up what all cowboys feel about the rodeo. It's exhilarating – the roar of the crowd cheering the riders on to greatness; the feel of the powerful animal underneath them and their will to control the animal; the chance to prove to their peers they are the best – that's what keeps old rodeo hands coming back year after year. It's dangerous, and you won't make yourself a millionaire, but it's all worth it.

Great Falls is pleased to host this grand tradition at the Montana PRCA Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals at Montana ExpoPark.This spectacular annual event continues to grow in popularity from year to year. Seasoned rodeo hands respect and appreciate this rodeo, as it features the pinnacle of contestants and livestock. During the three-day event, nearly 100 of Montana's best pro rodeo contestants will travel to Great Falls to put their skills and smarts to the test against the strength and heart of Montana's finest rodeo stock.

Yet you don't have to be an old cowboy to appreciate this event. Families and first-time attendees will no doubt be thrilled by the competition that features such high energy and stamina from the contestants as well as the livestock.

The Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals are held at the Montana ExpoPark – home to the Montana State Fair and host to several events throughout the year. This historic facility, built with the help of WPA workers during the New Deal Era, features several unique buildings spread over 133 acres. Due to its central location in Great Falls, and its proximity to the Canadian border, the ExpoPark always draws a crowd – especially for the Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals. The friendly staff at the ExpoPark are extremely proud of their exceptional customer service. Their goal for every event is to make sure attendees have fun!

Having fun at the Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals will be a breeze (although it may be a cold breeze since the event is hosted in January.) The Miss Rodeo Montana Pageant is also a big draw for the event. In addition, the Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals also hosts an auction and a dance.

Pageant Talent Help?!?

I am entering a pageant that is coming up soon and I'm trying to figure out my talent. I've been dancing since I was two, so I'm definitely dancing, but I haven't chosen between lyrical or jazz. I think I want to do jazz, but don't know what song to do. I'm best at sassy jazz, something fast paced, and I love broadway. Any suggestions would be helpful! And if you have any lyrical suggestions that would be great too!

Okay, take it from a judge - please, please, PLEASE, do NOT use "All that Jazz." It is used SO frequently that it gets really old. Just about EVERY pageant has someone singing or dancing to that song, and it's very cliche in the minds of the judges. And people who judge a lot have seen many versions, and it's hard not to compare that contestant to past performances of that selection by other contestants.

I think sassy jazz is the way to go if you have great technical skill. It's definately going to be entertaining, I think it would be more than lyrical. As for the song there are defiantely more creative choices. I'd select something from a more recent show. I think that Mamma Mia or Movin' Out could be good. Both of those have a Broadway feel, but are still familiar that the audience could really get involved in the performance (Abba and Billy Joel). You could also do something from Legally Blonde or Wicked.
