an honest answer would be the shared theme ...they are 75% crap films !
sorry but australia tanked , moulin rouge was atrocious and corny-and wtf were they thinking using nirvana !!!!!!!, and romeo and juliet was his way to butcher shakespeare ....strictly ballroom however was half decent [it had a nice story ,if a dorky way of telling it]

for a serious answer ...tell them all four films repesented a forbidden /unacceptable by society style of love and the way these couples fell in love and tried to continue affairs / relationships without knowledge of others ...rant on about that sort of stuff ...and you will be ok
