Do most ballet teacher put girls on pointe according to their age or if they are ready?

I am 12 and i have been doing ballet for about seven years, do you think my teacher will put us on pointe according to age or if she thinks we are ready?

I don't know your Ballet instructor, so I'm not quite sure as to how she will choose.
But, a proper instructor will choose according to both! Your age... in America, you should usually be older than eleven-years-old. But, in other countries, such as Russia, France, & Italy, you will be "en pointe" by the time you are about ten-years-old.

Your talent & readiness... this has much to do with maturity. You must be mature in order to understand how to keep from injuring yourself, & also, mature enough to maintain a high level of energy for pointe Ballet! Your body, ankles, toes, arches, calves, thighs, hips... it all must be strong enough to handle the severe intensity of pointe dancing, of toe shoes.

Your passion... you must have true passion to be a ballerina... a true ballerina!!
Your expression... if you are unable to express yourself through your dancing, as in: your facial features, clean lines, etc., you are not at the level to be able to understand how truly beautiful pointe Ballet is. You must be able to connect with an audience because, once you are "en pointe," you will be so very focused upon your footwork that you may forget that you are an artiste... a performer on stage.

No worries; you are young & I am sure that if you have all these things, you will be "en pointe" very soon!! Good Luck!!

P.S. Once you have your toe shoes, you need to increase your levels of calcium & potassium... drink milk, eat different cheeses or Greek yogurts for calcium. & for potassium, eat bananas, fresh fruits, & tomatoes!! This will strengthen your muscles & will also give you a heightened level of energy, which you will certainly need whether in your flat slippers for technique or "en pointe".
Believe in yourself. Have confidence. Have fun. My instructor always tells me to love my combinations... my dances... my steps.
Be sure to have your mother (or guardian) sew your elastics on very tightly. Singe your ribbons with parental supervision, so that they will not unravel. Ask your instructor during your first pointe lesson to show you how to properly tie your ribbons. Learn what method your instructor uses... for instance, mine uses the Cecchetti method... an Italian method.
Always know what sort of pointe shoes fit you best... I wear Grishko's... a Russian company. You must understand your body... your movements... & especially your feet.
You will see that every dancer has a quirk. My quirks are my feet... I have extremely high arches, but if I don't strengthen my ankles, this could harm me. But, I love this quirk of mine because it makes me unique to the other ballerinas that I know. Every dancer has a quirk... find yours & love it!!
Always stretch before your lessons, rehearsals, & performances. Always practise flexibility. You can purchase an elastic band to use for strengthening your feet. Once you learn these, you should regularly practise your presses in your pointe shoes & your releves with supervision!! For practise & strengthening, you can releve in your flat slippers on one foot, then switch to the other.
During pointe lessons, never be afraid to tell your instructor if you are exhausted or need water. Always stay hydrated. I have been asked to get water by my instructor because she could tell that I was dehydrated... your instructor can tell, believe me. If you are cramping or if you feel your ankles might go out from beneath you, ask your instructor for a moment to catch your breath & energy, or to end the lesson for the day. They will understand!
Be fearless!!
Even when you feel as though your toes are about to fall straight off your foot, never give up! You can wrap your foot once home to prevent cramping.
Never let blisters become infected & keep your toenails quite short, but not so short that it will rub the satin in your shoe.
Ask your instructor to show you ways to "break in" the shanks of your toe shoes.
Ask your instructor if you are properly rising onto the box of the pointe shoe because if you are not this is something that should be noticed & alleviated. My usual tendency is that I will actually go over the box, which is another of my quirks, this also must be watched for.
"Feel the floor" as my instructor tells me! This means that while dancing tendus, degages, etc., you must use the floor to have your foot flat on the ground especially in pointe shoes.
Always be in a passion when you dance... find your character in the performance & become that character!!
Another thing to do is to pray. God provides & blesses you! Pray before every lesson, rehearsal, & performance.
