Flip flops cause health issue
Flip-flops are a huge part of the summer scene. While they may be stylish and initially comfortable, flip-flops may actually cause problems for your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back. Flip-flop may be one among popular footwear during summers but recent study conducted by American School of Sports Medicine shows that these are a possible cause of aches and pains in body. The study even says that these are more harmful than other footwear including high heels. Prof. Wendi Weimer of Auburn University says that she became interested in flip-flops when she noticed an increase in lower leg pain when her students came back from summer and were transitioning back into wearing tennis shoes and street shoes.
Researchers found that when study participants wore flip-flops, they took shorter steps and their heels hit the ground with less vertical force than when they wore athletic shoes. The flip-flop wearers also did not bring their toes up quite as much during the leg's swing phase, creating a larger ankle angle and shorter stride length. Researchers felt this last observation was due to the wearers gripping the flip-flops with their toes
For the human body, everything starts with the foot. If there is no proper support, there is no way to properly support the rest of the body as you move up the chain: knees, lower back, shoulders, and neck. It’s the old song; the shin bone’s connected to the knee bone. Walking puts up to 1.5 times bodyweight on each foot. Strenuous exercise can increase the load, with an hour of jogging generating an estimated million pounds of pressure.
Ankle sprains are also common due to stepping off a curb or stepping wrong; the ankle bends, but the flip flop neither holds on to nor supports it. The open nature of flip-flops also makes the wearer more susceptible to stubbed toes, and exposes the foot to the environment. The toe grip can be useful for preventing the foot from slipping forward in a convenient sandal, but flip flops with bands across higher areas of the foot or the arch are recommended for support and keeping the shoe on the foot. Thong sandals are also popular with the same proportions and structures of flip flops, but with the addition of a sling back or an ankle strap that holds and supports the foot in a stable position. Arch support is also found in many more expensive and better made flip flops rather than the ubiquitous foam materials. Spending more on a better quality, better created shoe can influence the wearer's health and safety. Such shoes are also more commonly endowed with rubberized soles and better cushions.

It used to be that only people in tropical climates wore them all the time. Otherwise, you only saw them at the pool, beach or shower. Now they're everywhere! At work, at play, at dances! Pediotricians say they bad for your feet. Do you wear them everywhere? Do you think they're fashionable? Or not? Are they masculine on guys? Do they represent sloviness? I have a pair because they are handy, I think they're ok for wearing occasionally and at the right times, like at the beach, the pool or on really hot days. They look ok on guys but usually only the black or brown ones. I don't think they look very stylish though, they are extremely casual. I hate the way they're everywhere now, EVERYBODY here (Australia) seems to have a pair of Havaianas thongs, and they wear them all the time - even through winter. What the? I need two pairs of socks and some boots to keep my feet cosy in winter and these people are getting around in thongs? For god's sake people get yourselves some real shoes, they are better for your feet, more stylish and can be just as comfortable.
