Appropriate Dress for Grade 9 semi formal? Backless dress?

Grade 9 semi formal is ocming up and I don't have a new dress to wear and cannot get a new one so I will be wearing my sisters old one (which is VERY nice and was VERY expensive). My parents, sister and I all think it is elegant but I'm afraid girls at school will think it is slutty. I don't normally wear sluttty clothes and I am shy around boys. The dress is a pretty green fabric (not shiny but soft and slinky) with silver sequin flowers around the edges in details. The back of the dress is what im conserned about, it is backless! It goes down to the top of the small of my back and has a few strings going across withe the flowers on it. length wise it is just above knee ( no thigh whatso ever). I am planning on wearing 2 inch heels ( i can walk and dance well in them) and some acessories. Is this appropriate?? I don't have a date and was planning on going with my girl friends.

I know you can't get a new dress, but if you feel uncomfortable about the back, you can always get a cute black balero or shrug to go with it and then if you feel more comfortable at the dance you can always take it off. I'm sure you can find a cheap one online.

By the way, it's all about you feeling comfortable and pretty and if that includes a little modesty, I think that's wonderful and appropriate for a 9th grader. The dress sounds beautiful, and if you want to you should rock it, but it's okay to want to cover up a little.
