Pristina - Kosovo, a Center of Music and Dance
Pristina became the capital of Kosovo following World War II. As the largest city, it has a population of over 400,000 people. Presently, it is the economic, cultural and the administrative center of Kosovo and the location of the central government of Kosovo. Pristina is the only city with an International airport in Kosovo. The most popular sections of Pristina are the Kurrizi, the Dardania quarter and the Qafa, which is near the center of the city. Your travel agent can provide the information needed for passport, visa and registration procedures. The best time to visit is between May and September.
Among the new buildings are the Assembly Building, Radio and Television Stations, the Press and Publishing Halls and the University of Pristina Library. Shops, cafes, and businesses fill the downtown streets of Pristina and there is no shortage of restaurants offering both traditional cuisine and a variety of other cuisines. Among the new and older hotels in Pristina are three and four-star hotels. There are nightclubs and cafés offering jazz, hip-hop and all the latest dance music.
Among the attractions in Pristina is the village of Ulpiana founded in the 2nd century, which became the city of Pristina. Other sites are the 14th century Gracanica Monastery, the 18th century Academy of Arts and Sciences, the mausoleum of Sultan Murat from the 15th century and the Grand Hotel museum. The University of Pristina and the Sports, Cultural and Trade Complex are the center of much activity in Pristina today.

Jazz $67 American history. Born of oppression and built upon improvisation, it transcends racial divisions and continuously evolves with the times. Originating in New Orleans, jazz migrated north during the Roaring Twenties, ignited by the Hot Jazz of Louis Armstrong. During the Great Depression, Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson brought the captivating sounds of Harlem nightclubs to dance halls across the country and helped usher in the Swing Era. As music tastes changed and rock and roll emerged during the 1950s, Miles Davis initiated a new era in jazz, and a legacy that lives on today. American Popular Music: Jazz follows the history and development of jazz through the years, monitoring a genre in musical history that remains vital and dynamic to American popular culture as we know it. |

The Jazz $6.99 Melissa Scott, winner of the John W. Campbell Award, twice winner of the Lambda Award for best novel, and author of the cyberpunk classic, Trouble and Her Friends, returns with a hip novel of the media-dominated future, when the internet is filled with Jazz: intentional misinformation and bewildering disinformation that are both an artform and a business. Tin Lizzy, a respected Jazz artist with a checkered past, is a theatrical Web site designer who does backgrounds for Jazz productions. When a nifty new script shows up on the web, Lizzy is surprised to learn it came from a teenage boy named Keyz. It turns out Keyz used his parents' access codes to borrow a Hollywood studio's editing program- the true, hidden source of the studio's success. Now the studio head wants to lock him in jail and throw away the key. So Lizzy rescues him and takes him on the road, across the altered landscape of twenty-first century USA, trying to stay one step ahead of the police . . . . and the vengeance of a megalomaniac CEO. The Jazz is a road chase novel of the future, filled with shady characters, close calls, and colorful neat ideas. |
