How To Spruce up Dancer Costumes

If you are looking to build your costume closet for your dance entertainment company, there is no reason to spend a lot doing it! With all of the online resources available to us, there are several options. Of course you can scour the web for ready made costumes in a bag, but why not take your dance costumes to the next level with some spectacular little touches that will wow your corporate event clients!

You can find basics on line at sites that offer dance wear or even at your local craft store. Add some sparkle to the simplest of things and in doing so bring a basic to another level. Starting with basic leotards, skirts, gloves and top hats, for example. Adding a bit of flair to any of these items will give you an edge over other corporate event entertainment companies. Try adding boas to the bottom and back of corsets for a Moulin Rouge theme. Let the boas drape lower in back so it looks more like a bustle - indicative of that era. Or add some boa feathers to the top of long gloves for Showgirls. How about top hats that have some sparkle to them. Spray some glitter from your local craft store on to the hats. This works wonders and will sparkle up any dance performance for a private party.

One of my favorites is adding crystals to just about anything! When the stage lights hit the dancer wearing them, it generates a very expensive looking costume. Another little trick is for Showgirl costumes.... most of the headdresses for showgirls are very expensive. They are worth it because they lend so much to the look. And it is a great investment for your Casino themed parties and events. But if you simply don't have that kind of budget, why not add some single feathers to a top hat? Or create your own kind of Showgirl headpiece by getting a headband that you might be able to glue some foam onto and then adorn it with feathers, crystals and marabou boa. Voila, a quick and inexpensive way to have your very own headpiece! These are all very simple and inexpensive, not to mention quick little tricks to upping your performance costumes.

Which dance style causes the least amount of long term injuries - jazz, ballet, tap?

And I was wondering...... which would be the cheapest... I'm thinking in terms of costumes.

(I have two children starting dance classes and I don't know anything about dance). Thankyou.

Tap would be the least dangerous. It has the least amount of jumps and leaps, especially at a beginning level. Ballet would be the style with the largest potential for injury, but this would occur more at an advanced level. Jazz would be in between. At a beginner level none of these types of dance is any more dangerous than the other. Many dance schools suggest students start with ballet to learn how to take instruction and body movement.

Ballet costumes seem to be the most expensive, but it is going to depend on the dance school. If the children are young and growing the shoes are going to be expensive to replace every year or more often. Ballet shoes are the cheapest of the bunch.

This may not be a popular answer but I am an adult and I took 9 years of ballet, 7 of tap, 7 of jazz, and 2 years on pointe. I really wish my parents would have made me learn an instrument instead. At least that is something I could still do today.
