Dancing is so popular nowadays that there are numerous competitions in place where many couples from all over the world compete to see who the best dancer is. The Foxtrot dance is a simpler type of dance for someone who is a novice and just starting their dancing career.  Dancers make grandiose movements throughout the dance.  Basically circling and sweeping themselves in grand gestures across the dance floor. This a lot of fun to learn since it is easier. It is a great gateway dance style.

Perhaps the favorite of all American Style dancing is the waltz. It is a very romantic and dreamy way of dancing. It is done to a moderate music tempo and performed in close proximity to a partner. There is a regular sequence of steps and movements involved which make this dancing style fairly easy to learn. Waltz lessons are very popular and inexpensive. If you decide to take any type of dance lessons you should start with the waltz; once you get the waltz learned properly learning any other type of dance style is a piece of cake.

The Mambo can be traced back to tribal dancing.  Its form represents presence and power.  It was modernized in the1950s in the United States to a more ballroom style of dance. It is very upbeat and exhilarating.

The Cha Cha dance gets it moniker from the triple step Cha Cha Cha.  It comes from the Cuban Mambo and is danced to two different beats. It requires a bit of concentration.

BALLROOM DANCING??? tips and steps?

ok im in the edudance competition this year and i just want to know etiiqute of ballroom dancing how to impress the judges ect. the dances we are doing are tango, foxtrot, rumba, waltz, east coast swing, cha cha, merengue(pretty easy not much help needed on merengue)

You must be so excited! As long as your lead knows the rules of etiquette for ballroom, you'll be set. I'm sure you already know the "international panic signal" - if you see another couple that you are about to collide with, simply tap your partner on the shoulder (gently). Technique is important in competition. Make sure your face is in character with the dance. Follow the dress code.
