What Men's Dancewear is Available for Class and Rehearsal?

If you are a man involved in dance of any style from ballet to tango, you will know just how difficult it can be to find the right men's dancewear in the high street stores. In my local area and even in the next city there are no dance shops catering for the need for men's dancewear. The nearest stores you will find selling anything remotely suitable for a dance class is a sports shop. But these tend to sell football kit and even more football kit and a great deal of women's fitness clothing. No men's dancewear in sight and not a chance of finding a pair of dance tights, or a leotard, even for a female dancer let alone a male dancer.

The best option for finding cool men's dancewear for class and rehearsal is by browsing online stores. Here you will find a growing range of essential men's dancewear and some more outrageous stuff such as exciting metallic dancewear which can be worn by both men and women. This can be worn as club wear too and is very popular at the moment.

All the leading designers and manufactures such as Capezio, Freed, Bloch and Sancha have great ranges of men's dancewear available to the male dancer. You will no doubt find what you need and many online men's dancewear stores will source what ever you need if you contact them.

Most important for a male dancer is the correct underwear. Men's dancewear underwear is available in white, nude and black both padded and unpadded. So every eventuality will be catered for. There are other colors available so contact the online store and they will find it for you if they possibly can, from one of their many suppliers.

Dance tights designed for men are thicker and denser than the female equivalent giving the male dancer more support and coverage. But I can see no reason why men's dancewear cannot be in brighter more daring colors.

If you are feeling adventurous you could go for a shiny metallic catsuit or dance pants and cause a real stir in class. These are perhaps best left for wearing on a night out in a hot club or for a performance.

pointe ballet shoe sizing?

I'm interested in teaching myself pointe.
I have a high pain tolerance, experience in floor ballet, and strong feet and ankles.
Since I'm not sure how easily I could teach myself, I'm not willing to buy an expensive pair of pointe ballet shoes.
Can someone please tell me how I could determine a size myself to buy a pair of these pointe shoes?
I have Capezio dance sneakers in 9 1/2 if that helps....

and what kind of ribbon or elastic do I also need to purchase?

you really shouldn't be en pointe without the okay from your teacher, but if you are going to go ahead with it anyways you still need the shoes fitted by a professional. any dance store will have staff that are experienced and will be able to help you find the perfect pointe shoe for your foot. but if you want them cheap they have tons of new pairs of pointe shoes on ebay. pointe shoes are usually about the same as mens sizes so you subract 2 sizes from your womens shoe size (so you would be a 7.5 probably) also you have to find the width of your foot (B,C,D,E....) an average width foot is around a C or a B and a wider foot would be a D or E. still i would suggest getting the shoes sized at a dance store by a professional so you know your size. you don't have to bvuy the pair you get fitted for jsut then you will know your size and you can buy them on ebay or something. and you need to buy enough ribbon for both shoes (just buy this at the dance store it isnt expensive) and same goes for the elastic. they will help you at a dance store.
