Dark Underarms - Finding a Safe and Effective Underarm Whitening Cream Or Gel

Underarm whitening creams and gels address an age in which lightening dark underarms is becoming commonplace.

What's wrong with dark underarms? Medically, nothing. However, the quest for lighter underarms is more of a cosmetic pursuit. An underarm whitening cream or gel becomes an essential grooming product.

For others, dark underarms simply look unclean or unhygienic. Women in particular are self-conscious wearing swimsuits, workout clothing, and dresses or blouses that expose their underarms. They just don't like the look of it.

Safety applies to the ingredients and the process an underarm whitening cream uses. The initial wave of products contained chemicals later found to cause problems. Mercury worked on dark skin, but then the health risks of mercury came to light. Whitening products containing steroids fell from favor due to health concerns. One common ingredient, hydroquinone, not only caused a raft of allergic side affects, but also was later linked to cancer. Even arsenic had some skin bleaching ability, but safety concerns clouded its use on underarms.

You may wish to avoid any over-the-counter skin bleaching product containing mercury, hydroquinone, or steroids, because all have shown side effects and long-term risks. You have to use a lightening cream over and over to get significant fading. A chemical found to have long-term exposure risks must be taken seriously. This is especially true when planning to use a skin bleaching on sensitive skin such as on the under arm.

Be wary of any and all skin care products that rely on noted skin peeling ingredients as their main source of lightening. Once again, the process of lightening dark underarms requires repetition. It flies in the face of increasing attractiveness to trade peeling skin for dark under arms. Putting up with it and putting deodorant on it for any period of time may not appeal to many consumers.

The new generation of under arm whitening creams do not work by peeling the skin. They use ingredients shown to be safe, because they work to inhibit melanin production. It's the melanin that makes dark under arms. Control melanin and you control the skin tone. It will be gradual, as it will be with any under arm whitening cream or gel. It will work over time, giving you-and perhaps your paramour-the attractive alternative to dark under arms.
