Pink is the color of fashion this summer!

It was the French who first introduced the various forms of Pink Dresses as Academic Clothing. Also in World War II, both male and female nurses wore Pink Dresses as a symbol. Then it was the very famous cartoon character Pink Panther, which made the color famous again. Although, it was not related to cartoons but still, had an impact in the propagation of Pink Color in fashion industry.
Many movies were named after the color in that era; also, the color was worn by famous celebs, however, the revival of Pink Color, as clothing shade in today's fashion industry is the gift of Victoria's Secret lingerie line, named "Pink." The brand hired and is keeping on the tradition of hiring the top models of the time for the publicity of the line and gradually, pink blushed out of the lingerie to mainstream fashion ramps and Summer 2010 has proven to be the biggest season of pink tradition, until now.
In this season, along with Party Dresses and Prom Dresses, Pink is introduced as a new color for Wedding Dresses and it certainly has made some mark. Along with Dresses, Pink Shirts tops and halters are very much in this season. Hot Pink, Salmon Pink, Pale Pink and Carnation Pink are more in this summer, in terms of clothing tendencies. Bags, Hats, Belts and other accessories are also adopting the color. Even Pink Denim Jeans have been worn by celebs on various occasions. Pink Thong Shoes are considered to be an essential part of Beach Wears this season.

I like the Idea or a thin white belt to add shape to the dress. As for shoes I agree flats. Like you said its a church event. Unless its like a conference and there is a dance at the end of the weekend of it then go w/ white heels to make it pop!
