Natural Beads: A Natural Way To Adorn Yourself

Natural beads provide a great variety of colors, shapes and styles. Also known as organic beads these beads can very easily charm people with their bright colors and beautiful artwork. Natural beads are primarily made by using naturally available resources such as bones, horns, ivory, mother of pearl, nuts, stones, seeds, shells, wood and other plant and insect resins. These beads are generally used for the purpose of body adornment in the form of jewelry. These naturally manufactured beads are known to man since the onset of human civilization.

Nowadays, these organic beads are used to decorate other things than ornaments such as shoes, belts, caps, clothes, bow quivers, bags, to name a few. There beautiful designs and patterns add beauty and grace to the whole appearance.

It is so amazing that nature has provided human beings with so many natural resources to not only make our living with but also do a lot of creative activities and jewelry making is one of those things. One of the most interesting things is to make beautiful beads out of naturally available material such as wood, stones, horns, bones and shells.

The greatest advantage of using these natural beads over other precious gemstones is the affordability factor. These semi-precious gems cost very less as compared to other expensive beads such as diamonds, ruby, emerald, etc. However, semi-precious stones are equally beautiful and good in quality. One can easily choose from various colors and designs available in natural beads the kind that suits his/her personality and taste well.

Earlier beads were made through hands and thus making these beautiful beads required a lot of craftsmanship, skill set and a great amount of effort and labor. But, now a lot of machines have been invested that create such beads in no time. However, the charm of handmade beads is still more than the mechanically manufactured beads. This is the reason that handmade beaded jewelry is priced quite high in comparison to the machine made accessories. One must pay special attention to the design, size and colors of the beads before buying an ornament or accessory as all these factors affect the whole appearance and in turn the persona of the wearer. One must choose the beads that go with his personality the best.

Where can I get info on a beaded Indian piece?

About 30 years ago my great aunt brought back from Alaska (I think) a beaded indian belt. I think she called it a belt, although it looks too small to be a belt, it is apx 3 ft long. How and where can I find more info on it. My son wants to take it to school for show and tell. Plus i am really curious.
