Learn ballroom dance to experience a whole new world

When people dance as a hobby or for fun, it is called social dancing. Today social dancing is a popular, admired and leisure activity for people of all ages. However, some people feel shy getting to the dance floor. If you are also one of them, then with little practice you can take to the dance floor with style. There are various ballroom dancing programs and classes offered by dance schools where you can train yourself at the comfort of your home.

Whether you want to learn dance to win competition or just for fun, ballroom dance is for everyone. You can learn different moves and steps in different styles with an expert instructor. He will make dancing look easy, but it takes lots of training and hard-work to become an expert. It has been observed that many people move to ballroom dance from other sports or arts to build career in dance, and other starts taking lessons as adults and discovers a talent they never knew they had!

There are categories in American style ballroom dancing that is smooth and rhythm. In smooth category, Waltz, Viennese waltz, tango and fox-trot come. And in rhythm, Cha-cha, rumba, samba, east coast swing, bolero and mambo come. American-style ballroom dance is less formal and more theatrical, letting dance partners to break apart to execute individual steps.

If you are looking for dance school or class, it is very easy to find a ballroom dancing class. Dance schools such as Arthur Murray offer dance classes to people of all ages, all over the USA.  However, before joining any ballroom class, ask questions, such as: Is the instructor well trained, experienced and certified? A skilled dance instructor teaches standardized steps and uses coaching methods permitted by the National Dance Council of America. It is also good to ask how many students will be in your class. The bigger the class, the less attention your trainer will be able to give you. For your convenience, you can also talk to the instructors to know: ‘Do they seem friendly and patient?'  An instructor should be dedicatedly interested in your progress and not just offer training as a mean of making dollars.

Apart from dancing aspects, other major thing to remember is that wearing dance attire and shoes that are comfortable and soothing make you feel good. It is very important for you to feel comfortable to fully focus on your dance classes. So the point is that leaning dance is a whole experience, and if you know the basic principles, moving into that world will be much easier. Just knowing these aspects will help you to make your first step on the dance floor easily and comfortably.

Musical Selection?

I'm a competitive ice dancer. My partner and I have been competeing together (both on our second partnerships) for seven years this month. We used to pairs skate, but now mainly do ice dancing (sort of ballroom dancing on ice, to simplify things greatly).

We're doing this benefit in the summer, not a standard competition. Therefore, no CD/OD/FD regulations. We're skating three dances, one must have a latin feel (think Cha-Cha/Samba/Rumba), one must have more of a traditional ballroom feel (think Waltz/Tango/Foxtrot), and the other is a freestyle. We need songs for each.

What we'd like:

Latin: Sexual undertones (without being unappropriate), passionate, medium tempo.
Ballroom: Slower tempo, more lovey-dovey then passionate.
Freestyle: FUN! Fast tempo.

Any suggestions?
