How to differentiate between American Smooth and American Rhythm with International Standard and International Latin?

International Standard is danced entirely in contact; American Smooth includes open positions, underarm turns, and lots of movement in shadow position. Also, there aren't but four dances in Smooth: No Quickstep.
The five dances in Latin and Rhythm aren't all the same dances, so that's a clue with those. Also, International rumba's basic pattern is the same as that in American mambo, though of course at a slower tempo, where American rumba's basic step is a box. The differences in cha cha are a bit more subtle, and it's quite possible to use many of the same patterns in either, but there are subtle differences if you watch carefully.
Not directly to the point, but of some note, is that swing is becoming more jive-like with time, and the box rumba (purportedly invented by Kathryn Murray) incorporates a more International feel.
