2010 Designer Handbag Trends - Cultural Fusion
The overriding theme that will undoubtedly carry on from 2009 to 2010 is the effect of the staggering economy on the fashion industry. One of the results will be a resurgence of culturally-inspired design. The popularity of the ethnic look may have to do with the fact that most of us desire to travel to exotic countries, but we can't afford it. Therefore, a handbag that emotes a different cultural ambience is the next best thing.
Tribal Trendsetters
Whether it's neon fabrics from Valentino or pastels from Prada, the use of bright colors in designer handbags has been popular for a while now. However, the tribal flare represents a new twist on this popular concept. For example, the Talita handbag by Christian Louboutin gives off a cultural vibe with its color palate and design structure that resembles an African mask. You can also see this 2010 trend with the Bottega Veneta Tie-dye Napa Handbag which is woven with brown and tan fabrics, and adorned with fringes.
Another trend is the use of animal prints. We've been seeing the crocodile skin print from Hermes and the metallic snakeskin print from multiple fashion houses, but the newest trend is the use of unique and lesser-known animal prints. Dooney and Bourke for example uses leather giraffe skin in handbags for their winter collection. Moreover, Alexander McQueen's Scuba de Manta clutch has a beautiful multi-colored python fabric which nearly resembles a butterfly. The important thing to note here is that these animal prints and tribal fabrics possess the coveted quality of being unique, yet versatile.

what is the difference between american tribal style and tribal fusion bellydancing?
has anyone ever heard of rachel brice? she does tribal fusion bellydancing. i think this form is very interesting, and i love how she performs. however i'd like to know if there is a diffrence between american tribal style (ATS) and tribal fusion. can anyone help me out?
American Tribal Style belly dance is a dance form originated by Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance in San Francisco. It incorporates classic Egyptian and folkloric dance movements into a specific vocabulary of steps, gestures and movements. ATS is an improvisational group dance, where the dancers watch for subtle cues of the 'leader' to transition to the next step, shimmy or turn. Performances tend to look choreographed because all of the dancers are synchronized, but the ATS style is improvisational. Costuming includes pantaloons (voluminous pants gathered at the ankle), layers of tiered skirts, hip scarves with fringe and tassels, choli-style tops and coin-covered bras, turbans and lots of Central Asian style jewelry.
Tribal fusion dance is an umbrella term for any dance style based on ATS but which also incorporates any number of other dance styles, depending on the instructor. Classical Indian dance, flamenco, hip-hop, Egyptian cabaret, and bhangra are some of the more popular influences in tribal fusion styles. It may or may not be improvisational, and costuming can range from ATS-style costuming to a darker goth-look... there are so many styles out there that consider themselves tribal fusion.
Rachel Brice is one of the major innovators of modern Tribal Fusion style dance. Along with her busy workshop and solo performance schedule, she also heads The Indigo Belly Dance Company. Her dance style relies heavily on serpent-like movements, popping & locking. In my opinion, she's an amazing dancer and is one of my biggest inspirations.
If you like Rachel, you should also check out Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love and Sharon Kihara. Plenty of YouTube videos out there.
